Let’s Drink to That

A toast to all the good guys out there.
A toast to the romantics who believed that love conquers all.
A toast — to us — who’d go out of our way to show how much we love our girls.
A toast to the men who’d hopelessly kneel under the freezing rain to be forgiven.
A toast to us, who tirelessly waited for her return.
A toast for every flower sent.
A toast for every poem written.
A toast for every meal shared.
A toast for every gift given.
A toast for the long walks home.
A toast for braving the weather just to see that she’s alright.
A toast for all future plans.
A toast for swallowing our pride to entertain her naivete.
A toast for not ever being good enough.
And a toast…for realizing that she wasn’t worth it, after all….
A friend of mine (thanks B. Coran) once told me in one of our one-on-one drinking sessions: "In the race of love, it will always be the good guys who will finish last."
Sometimes. I don’t even know if I still have the drive to finish it at all.
